Best lip rejuvenation treatments

Lip treatments have had a long ‘moment’ in pop culture the last few years. Many trends have been and gone (some better than others!), but we are happy to see the major trend of 2023 has come full circle to NATURAL lips. Say goodbye to duck lips, an over-pronounced pout, and the ‘too big’ lips, and say hello to your own lips – tweaked.

So what are the best lip rejuvenation treatments out there? The obvious treatment that comes to mind is lip filler. We use soft hyaluronic acid fillers to create luscious lips. HA fillers do a beautiful job of hydrating, this means no more dry lips. Great during the cooler months. These fillers also add volume and projection to your pout, and they can improve asymmetries. The overall effect is fresh, beautiful lips (in an instant). The secret? Don’t add too much filler, and use something soft so they still look and feel natural.

We also love using these HA fillers in the perioral area (the area that surrounds your lips). HA fillers can be placed in the top lip lines and below the lips to smooth out the skin. We commonly place dermal fillers around the lower lips to give better support for the actual lips. This treatment is not something a client will come in for, but once we discuss it with them they understand that rejuvenating this area can have a huge impact on their lips. When this area is treated the lips will sit better for overall beautification and natural results.

Another lip treatment we do is antiwrinkle injections for a lip flip. A lip flip is quick and easy with no downtime. Antiwrinkle product is injected just above the lips into the obicularis oris muscle – the sphincter muscle that surrounds the lips. When we inject product here we improve vertical lines, and we are able to evert the lip to create a more pronounced lip.

Antiwrinkle injections are also used in the perioral area when we treat a gummy smile or downturned lips. These injections are quick and easy. When you smile, you will no longer be able to see your top gum because the lip is not being elevated as high. In the case of downturned lips, we inject antiwrinkle product in the DAO muscle to lift the corners of the mouth – this makes people look happier!

Lip blush cosmetic tattooing is another fantastic treatment for lip rejuvenation. This semi-permanent tattooing gives you a more defined border and beautiful colour- instant lippy! One less thing to worry about when you wake up in the morning. There’s a shade to suit everyone. This is another great way to create the illusion of fuller lips without needing lip filler injections. You can also pair this treatment with lip filler injections, as long as treatments are spaced 6 weeks apart.

We also have fractional laser in our clinic that we can use over the lips and the perioral area to improve texture and stimulate collagen production. This is a great option for people who want to improve the health of their lips but don’t fancy injectables. Can we create the same amount of volume as lip filler? No. But we are promoting healthy tissue by regenerating the lips with laser energy.

Of course, we love our Jane Iredale lip products to compliment all the lip treatments we provide. Hydrating HA glosses, soothing balms, and lip stains give your lips shine and colour that lasts all day.

Lips are such an important feature of our faces. There’s so much more to it than just ‘big lips’. Drop into our Cairns clinic and discuss our lips treatments with one of our friendly nurses.

Know the facts: Vitamin A

Retinol, vitamin A, and tretinoin – what’s the difference? What do these ingredients do? Should I be using them? What are the benefits? Any risks? Let us help you choose the right vitamin product for your skin.

Retinol and tretinoin are both forms of topical vitamin A. Depending on their active form, they will have slightly different effects on the skin. Vitamin A serums can be good for antioxidant protection, sun damage correction, pigment correction, smoothing skin texture, improving fine lines, boosting collagen production, strengthening the skin’s immunity, and helping to make your skin look younger- brighter and more radiant with less fine lines. GREAT! So which one should I use?

You can use vitamin A serums that are combined with other ingredients, like Allmedic’s Complete Repair Serum (30ml $110). This product is designed to be an all-in-one serum with antiaging benefits. The vitamin A in this product offers antioxidant protection and is great for aging, sensitive skin, breakout, and sun damage. Once you finish your Complete Repair Serum you may choose to progress to a stronger vitamin A product. Apply 1 pump to the face, or 2-3 pumps to face, neck and chest every evening under your moisturiser.

Mesoestetic’s Post-peel 1% Retinol Concentrate (100mL $198) is a straight vitamin A serum containing retinol. Retinol is a strong form of topical vitamin A that offers so many benefits to the skin. This ultra-concentrated serum prevents and corrects sun damage, improves pigmentation and fine lines, stimulates new collagen production, strengthens the skin’s immunity, increases cell turnover for smoother, brighter skin, and helps combat acne and aging. We recommend retinol to most of our clients as part of their homecare routine because it offers so many benefits to the types of skin we see here in our Cairns clinic. Apply 1 pump to the face every other night under your moisturiser, build up to every night. You must use SPF50+ every day and only use this serum at night.

Tretinoin is the strongest form of vitamin A cream on the market. It is only available with a prescription. It offers all of the same effects of retinol serums, but because it is a stronger form of vitamin A, it does everything more efficiently and faster. This product is great for sun damage and acne, as well as aging skin. Because it increases cell turnover, your skin becomes more sun sensitive than other forms of vitamin A. You must wear sunscreen every single day, and only use tretinoin at night time. Lower percentages can be used on the neck and chest, while stronger percentages can be used on the face with caution. You may notice some flaking on your skin when you first start using tretinoin, and sometimes even some pinkness. This resolves as your skin gets used to the ingredient. Tretinoin is especially fantastic for ace, aging, and sun damaged skin. It can help to clear clogged skin, fade pigmentation, and improve fine lines. This product is prescription only, and we will discuss all the details with you during your consultation. 50g, $140.

There are many forms of vitamin A and therefore many different products to choose from. Strongest isn’t always best when it comes to vitamin A, because you can end up with irritation. Often beginning with a milder form of the ingredient and building up your skin’s tolerance is the best way to go. We love vitamin A because of the many benefits it offers our client’s skin. Cheek filler Q&A

Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers can be used to rejuvenate the mid face (especially cheeks). We use these HA fillers to restore volume loss that happens naturally with the aging process.

Over time a combination of bone resorption, thinning and drooping of fat pads, and changes in skin quality lead to flattened cheeks. When our cheeks are flat like this they don’t reflect light so well, and this makes us look more aged. Anatomical differences between faces also means that some people are just born with flatter cheek bones, or have thinner fat pads. HA fillers can help!

How long will cheek filler last?
12-18+ months. Depending on the type that you choose, cheek fillers can last anywhere from 12 months to 2 years. The injected hyaluronic acid eventually dissolves and metabolises into your skin tissue.

What does filler in your cheeks do?
Filler restores volume in your face to rejuvenate your look and reflect light for better ‘beautification’. By adding volume to the cheek area and contouring the shape of your cheek with HA fillers, you can visibly lift your cheekbones and the lower face while filling out fine lines in the process.

Does cheek filler hurt?
You will only feel mild discomfort, if anything at all, when having dermal fillers. The product contains its own anaesthetic, so as we inject it you will start to feel some dull numbness in the area. You may feel a small prick of the needle going in, or a gentle tug if we are using a blunt-tip cannula. Overall cheek filler is not particularly uncomfortable.

How much filler do I need?
This varies from person to person. Some people may start very subtly with only 1ml in total, but this may not make enough of a visible difference for you. Others will have 2 – 3mls for cheeks if we are also treating their pre-auricular area (hollowing in front of the ears).

Which areas are treated with mid face and cheek filler?
We treat the medial (middle) and lateral (outer) cheeks, the nasolabial folds, and the pre-auricular (in front of the ears) area. We can also used soft fillers to treat the overlying skin to improve hydration and fine lines.

How much does cheek filler cost?
This varies depending on the number of syringes used. Prices start at $750, with multiple syringe packages available.

Mid face rejuvenation using HA fillers is a beautiful way to rejuvenate a person’s look- and the results are natural. If you would like to know more about cheek filler and what treatments might be right for you, book a consultation with one of our nurses today. We perform cosmetic injectables in Cairns  Monday – Friday. Book online, message us on our socials, or call/ text 0480 345 479.

The best under eye treatments

Hollowing tear troughs, crepey skin, wrinkles, and dark circles are all common concerns that people want addressed. Luckily, there are some great treatment options out there. Read on to find out what we think are the best under eye treatments.

Treating crow’s feet (aka smile lines) or wrinkles around the eyes is easily done with antiwrinkle injections. We do so many of these treatments every week at EA Aesthetics- it’s a very popular cosmetic treatment in Cairns. A small dose of toxin is injected around the outside corners of the eyes into the obicularis oculi muscle. These tiny injections will smooth the creases and wrinkles for up to 3- 4 months!

Treating hollowing tear troughs with dermal filler injections can work very well for the right candidate. This is an advanced cosmetic injecting technique that we do here in Cairns at the clinic. The right type of dermal filler is essential because you don’t want any lumps or bumps to remain in this delicate area. Tear trough filler will do a great job of improving a hollowed tear trough to give you a refreshed look, and it can also improve dark circles.

Another great treatment for dark circles is a series of Hydroboosters. This is where we inject soft dermal filler superficially into the skin to hydrate the tissue. When the skin is more hydrated it will soften the appearance of dark circles quite dramatically. If your dark circles are caused by pigmentation, this would be better addressed with laser and lightening creams to fade the pigment.

Crepey, thin skin is well treated with a range of treatments. Our most popular cosmetic options here in the Cairns clinic include Hydroboosters, PRP, Frax laser, micro-needling, and eye creams. All of these modalities improve the quality of this delicate area. Over time the skin will be smoother, firmer, and less crinkled.

As well as these treatments there are other options including surgery for hooded eyes or severe cases of excess skin. Often a combination of treatments over the year will give the best results. It is essential that you have a thorough consultation first to determine your wants and needs, and to understand which treatments will help you achieve those goals. The delicate skin around the eyes ages differently to the rest of our face and responds well to tailored treatments to support it. Book your consultation with nurse Ted or nurse Wendy to discuss which treatments might be right for you.

Everything you need to know!

Do you want to know how to get the best out of your laser and IPL treatments?

How do I prepare? What can I expect during my treatment? How many treatments will I need? What’s the recovery time like? How do I best care for my skin after my treatments?

These are all valid questions, and we are going to tell you everything you need to know to make sure you get the best results from your laser and IPL treatments with us- your leading cosmetic clinic in Cairns.

First of all, is there a difference between laser and IPL? YES! They are not the same technologies, however they can both treat many different concerns, and they are both light-based devices. Our Candela Nordlys IPL is world class. The narrow-band handpieces allow us to treat the skin more efficiently, effectively, and safely. We love our IPL for treating freckles, pigmentation, redness, capillaries, rosacea, acne, scarring, and sun damage. Our Candela Frax 1550 and Frax 1940 lasers are top-of-the-line fractional lasers. Fractional laser is excellent for improving textural irregularities, blending pigmentation, firming the skin, improving fine lines and pores, and giving the skin an undeniably healthy glow.

Our IPL and lasers both improve the look and feel of your complexion, while also promoting a healthier skin. It’s a win win!

So how do you get the BEST out of these treatments? Preparation is key- you wouldn’t run a marathon without training first. It’s no different with your skin. A treatment plan consisting of home care products supported by professional treatments will give you the best outcomes possible.

When you come for your consultation, we will discuss which treatment or treatments will suit your skin best. We may recommend to start with a series of IPL treatments, and finish with a fractional laser, or vice versa. The number of treatments you will need will depend on what you are trying to achieve with your skin, and what initial condition it is in. 20- 30 years of sun damage is not going to be eradicated in just 1 treatment.

How do you prepare? We want your skin to be as healthy as possible to be able to handle the laser or IPL treatment. This means we want it to be hydrated, not inflamed, smooth and exfoliated, and with no recent suntan. We will discuss which products will be most suitable for you, but some of our favourites are Allmedic Skin Repair, Mesoestetic Retinol 1%, Mesoestetic AOX Ferulic, and La Roche Posay sunscreen. We can even order in specialist ingredients from a compounding pharmacy if required (in instances where people have darker skin or lots of pigmentation). This preparation makes a really big difference to your overall outcomes. It’s also common to do an initial microdermabrasion facial to ensure we get rid of dead, dry skin that has built up on the surface.

What can I expect during my treatment? With both devices, your eyes are covered with protective goggles. When we use the IPL handpiece we always apply a conductive gel on the skin before pulsing. The pulses feel like a flick of a rubber band, followed by some tingling and heat. The more pigment you have, the more heat you feel. For the following 7-10 days pigment will lift off and redness will fade. With our lasers we roll the handpiece over the skin several times. You hold a cooling device to take away any heat, and the most you feel is tiny prickles. Both treatments are tolerable. You will feel varying degrees of heat with both. Following IPL you can be pink with dark speckles of pigmentation (your pigment always looks worse before it gets better). With fractional laser you will have an obvious redness to the face for 24 hours followed by a rough texture for the following 4-5 days before the skin lifts off.

These treatments are different, but they are both working towards a healthier skin that looks fresh. Aftercare is similar for both treatments. You MUST stay out of the sun, use sunscreen and wear a hat every day, and apply a recommended calming product to the skin like aloe vera or bepanthen. You can resume active ingredients (AHAs and vitamin A) after 2 weeks. You do not need to take any time off work for either of these treatments, your makeup can cover most of the darkened pigment. The aftercare is a vital step in restoring hydration and nourishment to the skin. The better you look after it following your laser, the better your skin will be.

After your course of laser and/ or IPL your skin will be vibrant, smooth, more even, and glowing. We love performing these advanced treatments for our clients and we get great results- especially when the skin is well prepared and well looked after!!

If you’re interested in improving your skin but don’t know where to start, book an initial consultation with us to discuss the many options available to you. Book online, message us on our socials, or call/ text 0480 345 479.

Top 5 questions: PRP

  1. What is PRP?

PRP stands for Platelet-rich plasma and is a unique treatment used in aesthetics for skin rejuvenation. You may have heard it dubbed ‘the Vampire Facial’ because we collect some of your blood and process it into a powerful serum (PRP) that is re-injected into your skin. When PRP is correctly administered it has been scientifically proven to REFRESH, TONE & TIGHTEN by repairing the elasticity, colour and quality of the skin.

Here at EA Aesthetics in Cairns we use the top-of-the-range Alocuro Pro-PRP system. It allows us to refine the PRP serum into a high-dose platelet solution that means we can provide superior treatments with maximum results.

  1. What does PRP treat?

PRP is an excellent treatment for SKIN HEALTH and REJUVENATION. We use PRP to treat:

  • Improve the overall health, tone and elasticity of the skin
  • Reduce shallow wrinkles and lines
  • Improve crepey skin under the eyes
  • Minimise the appearance of scars
  • Minimise the visible signs of aged and sun damaged skin
  • Promote more even skin tone and texture
  1. Does it hurt, is it dangerous?

We use topical numbing cream to make your treatment more comfortable. PRP is not dangerous. We handle your blood sample with complete care. It is very safe to be reinjected into your skin. We re-inject the PRP serum with either a tiny needle or our mesotherapy gun. Because we are using needles there is always a chance of small bruises- these can last a few days but are easily covered with makeup. You may also have some mild puffiness around the eyes for a few days.

  1. What is the benefit of having PRP and Hydroboosters together?

Hydroboosters are a mix of highly concentrated non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid and essential nutrients (amino acids, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins). Hydroboosters can be mixed with PRP and be reinjected into your skin.

We combine the skin health and rejuvenation qualities of the PRP with the hydrating and healing benefits of the Hydroboosters to offer you fantastic, INSTANT results. Your skin will be plumper, stronger and healthier. You will be radiant.

  1. What should I do if I want to book in for PRP?

Start by booking a consultation with nurse Ted or nurse Wendy at EA Aesthetics Cairns cosmetic and injectables clinic. We will answer any further questions you may have. We’ll analyse your skin, take diagnostic photographs and recommend the best PRP treatment for you. Get in touch today! Message us on our socials, book online, or call/ text the clinic on 0480 345 479.

Treating Sun Damage

Did you know that the sun causes more damage and aging to our skin than any other external factors? Harmful effects from UV rays not only cause sunburn and skin cancers, but they also lead to mottled pigmentation, redness, skin laxity and wrinkling. This is the presentation of sun damage, and it is happening all the time. Eek!

Many people notice this damage in their 30s and 40s, however the damage will continue to come out for the rest of their lives. The best way to combat sun damage is to protect your skin (at least on your face, neck and decolletage) from UV rays with sunscreen and protective clothing. We live in a tropical paradise, but the sun here is very fierce. You need to protect your skin every single day. All of us will have some degree of sun damage from our past. Don’t worry- we can help!

Our first approach is patient education. We talk about products- SPF 50+ sunscreens*, topical vitamins**, antioxidants and AHA/BHA creams*** as well as internal vitamins****. Finally, we recommend the best treatments suited to your skin to restore health and vitality as well as reverse the damage. Think IPL to reduce redness and brown blotches, PRP for healthier skin that is less crepey, laser for firming and smoothing, Vitamin A peels for wrinkle reduction and regeneration, and PDT for rejuvenation and less blotches. Why not finesse your results with anti-wrinkle injections and hyaluronic acid Hydroboosters and dermal filler?

We all have sun damage, but it can be treated. Let the staff at EA Aesthetics in Cairns recommend the best way to reverse the problem. We love helping our clients turn back the clock and improve their skin. Book your consultation today.

*We retail and recommend Mesoestetic Melan 130 Pigment, Mesoestetic Light Water Antiaging Veil, Mesoestetic Sun Stick 100, and La Roche Posay Invisible Fluid. They are all 50+ sunscreens that wear beautifully.

Mesoestetic HA Densimatrix

This is one of our FAVOURITE serums. Why? Because it smooths fine lines and plumps and firms the skin. How? Its unique formulation of hyaluronic acid and added components.

HA Densimatrix has the purity of hyaluronic acid (HA) in multiple molecular forms for EFFECTIVE skin filling and hydration. Its innovative formula of 3 unique complexes increases HA synthesis, reduces HA breakdown, and promotes collagen and elastin synthesis. The result- visible rejuvenation!

It is a concentrated treatment with HA that provides the skin with a moisturising, antiaging and filling action.

  • Combines HA in several molecular forms to provide, stimulate and protect its presence
  • Promotes collagen and elastin synthesis to provide firmness and elasticity to tissue and correct wrinkles.
  • Indicated for all skin types and ages.

HA is the main component of the extracellular matrix (ECM), the space between the skin cells that conditions them and ensures they are viable. The role of some internal and external aging factors (age, genetics, sun exposures, stress, diet, lifestyle) reduces the presence of HA in the skin, worsening the quality of the HA synthesised naturally, and speeds up its degradation. This results in a loss of hydration, elasticity, and the appearance of wrinkles.

KEY BENEFITS of HA Densimatrix

Boost the ECM to:

  • Improve barrier function (for rejuvenation and stronger skin)
  • Retain water (increased skin hydration)
  • Repair the epidermis (outer layer of skin improves in quality, look and feel)
  • Synthesis hyaluronic acid (increased hydration in deeper skin layers)
  • Reduce hyaluronic acid breakdown (prolonged hydration)
  • Synthesise collagen and elastin (firmer skin, less fine lines and wrinkles)

What the stats say:

+65% increased HA synthesis

-25% HA degradation

+45% increased elastin synthesis

5x increased skin hydration

We use and recommend HA Densimatrix for our Cairns clientele. It’s the perfect serum for our climate; having a water-gel texture, you won’t even feel like you’re wearing it. It’s also a great adjunct to cosmetic injectables to further plump the skin and give you a dewy complexion.

Apply 2 drops to your face every morning or evening after cleansing. Rub your regular moisturiser in over the top. You will love the results you see from HA Densimatrix.

EA Aesthetics – Cairns cosmetic and injectables clinic recommends and retails Mesoestetic.
