Spotlight on melasma

Have you noticed blotchy, darkened pigment across your face? Is it getting worse? You may have melasma.

Melasma is a common pigment condition, however most women don’t know they have it. It’s often called the pregnancy mask because it can darken throughout pregnancy before gradually fading (to some degree) several months later. Melasma has a certain look to it, making it distinctive from other forms of pigmentation like freckles, sunspots, and birthmarks. It has a lacey border and is usually symmetrical. It often presents across the top lip, forehead, cheeks and/or nose. It easily darkens with even the smallest amount of sun exposure or heat. It can be faint or more obvious, depending on where it lies in the skin and how well it’s looked after.

Melasma is incurable, but with stringent management it can be kept under control. It is vital that those with melasma wear SPF50+ every single day. We love our Mesoestetic Sun Stick 100 for optimal UV protection. Its solid stick form is water resistant to 4 hours, and it has both physical and chemical filters to protect melasma.  Using sunscreen to combat melasma is a MUST, especially for our Cairns clients who are exposed to high UV levels most days of the year. Other management strategies we recommend include:

  • Wearing wide-brimmed hats when outside
  • Using cosmeceutical ingredients like glycolic acid, vitamins A, B, & C, and kojic acid
  • Using prescription skincare creams containing hydroquinone and tretinoin
  • Having professional skin treatments:
  • Peels
  • PRP
  • IPL/ laser

Melasma must be treated with caution. Some treatments can actually make it worse. The best way to manage melasma involves using good quality targeted skincare, including daily sunscreen, as well as undergoing mild professional skin treatments. The team at EA Aesthetics understand how to approach melasma and can help you manage it. Message the clinic for a skin analysis and consultation today.

Top 5 questions: IPL

  1. What is Nordlys IPL?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light and it’s a light-based device that we use to treat a range of cosmetic concerns. When we pulse the IPL handpiece into the skin the light absorbs into different ‘targets’ to enact positive change. It absorbs into pigment spots to fade them or absorbs into superficial blood vessels to remove pink flushing. Our Nordlys IPL boasts exclusive technology to treat various skin concerns using narrow-band light. The result- less heat in your skin and fewer treatments compared to other IPLs. Nordlys IPL from Candela Medical is a superior device that offers superior results.

  1. What does IPL treat?

We use IPL to reduce and remove reds and browns in the skin for an even complexion. We associate even skin tone with a more youthful skin. People find that, after IPL treatments, they wear less or no makeup because they are not having to hide blotchy skin anymore. IPL is excellent for the following concerns:

  1. How many sessions do I need?

This depends on what we are trying to achieve and how your skin reacts. However, because the Nordlys IPL boasts such advanced technology, we can achieve great results in fewer treatments than other IPL systems. Most of our clients will see incredible improvements in their skin is as little as one or two treatments.

  1. Can IPL improve my skin, are the results permanent?

IPL improves most skins because of its ability to brighten and even out skin tone. You will need maintenance treatments for best long-term results. Like working out at the gym, if you stop going altogether your results will start to fade. Your skin is constantly changing and exposed to aging, so IPL is something that is best repeated. Depending on your skin, we may recommend a maintenance treatment every year. Research has shown that even 1 IPL treatment a year for 10 years significantly improves aging with less pigment, redness and fine lines.

  1. What should I do if I want to book in for IPL?

If you are interested in IPL, book your initial consultation with EA Aesthetics cosmetic injectables clinic. Don’t trust just anyone with your skin. Based in Cairns, we use the best machine and undergo rigorous training to offer you the safest and most effective IPL treatment. Get in touch. Message our socials, book a consultation online or text call 0480 345 479.

RF Skin Tightening

We are delighted to add a new service to our treatment menu for our lovely clients. The FaceShape RF machine fills a void that we wanted to fill. FaceShape RF is used for skin tightening and firming- it’s great for the jawline jowls/ neck, but can be performed as a full face treatment as well. With no downtime, treatments are enjoyable and don’t disrupt your busy lifestyle.

1.What is FaceShape RF?

FaceShape uses radiofrequency technology to effectively heat the skin to encourage firming and tightening. The RF energy converts into heat in your tissues to stimulate collagen production. Radiofrequency used in this way is very safe – unlike X-rays which release enormous amounts of radiofrequency energy, skin tightening devices release much less, making them effective and safe for skin tightening. The RF waves target both deep and superficial skin layers to achieve tightening, firming, and wrinkle reduction.

2.How many treatments do I need?

This varies on your skin and what you are trying to achieve. People will start to see improvements in one treatment, but for longer lasting results we recommend a course of at least 6 treatments. FaceShape is recommended every 2-3 weeks, and then maintenance treatments as required.

3.Is FaceShape uncomfortable? Is there any downtime?

NO! FaceShape RF skin tightening is quite the opposite- it’s relaxing. You feel warmth on your skin, like you are sitting in the sun. You can have transient pinkness in the treated area that lasts a few hours. Other than that, you are able to return to regular activities, including exercise, immediately!

4.How much does it cost?

One session is $300
A course of 6 treatments works out to be $249 per treatment.

5. Is FaceShape RF the right treatment for me?

It could be! FaceShape can be performed on most people. The best place to start is with a complimentary consultation. We will take diagnostic photos, discuss your skin goals and come up with a treatment plan that suits you. Book online, message us on our socials or call/ text 0480 345 479. FAQs: PRP with Boosters

1. Is this a combination treatment?

Yes! We perform PRP at the same time as using Hydroboosters. PRP (Platelet-rich plasma) is a serum we derive from your own blood. We prepare your blood in a centrifuge, extracting the platelet-rich plasma to reinject into your skin. This PRP serum is packed full of your body’s own healing and regenerating factors, things like growth factors and cytokines that boost the health and radiance of your complexion. Our Alocuro PRP system is the best on the market and allows us to collect a potent concentration of PRP for maximum benefits. We then mix your PRP with non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid Hydroboosters and inject this new serum into your skin. Teoxane Hydroboosters are full of hydrating hyaluronic acid, as well as vitamins and minerals to give your skin instant nourishment. The results are fabulous!

2. What benefits do you see?

The great thing about this treatment is that you see ALL the regenerating benefits of PRP, as well as densifying and hydrating benefits from the Hydroboosters!

PRP with Hydroboosters is an excellent treatment for SKIN HEALTH and REJUVENATION. We use it to:

  • Improve the overall health, tone and elasticity of the skin
  • Reduce shallow wrinkles and lines
  • Improve crepey skin under the eyes
  • Minimise the appearance of scars
  • Minimise the visible signs of aged and sun damaged skin
  • Promote more even skin tone and texture
  • Intensely hydrate

3. Does it hurt?

There is minimal discomfort with this treatment. You have numbing cream applied to the area. This makes you much more comfortable when we use either our mesotherapy gun or fine needle to inject the PRP and Hydroboosters into your skin. Downtime is minimal too- there can be small, transient bruises or redness which you can cover with make up.

4. How many treatments do I need?

Most people will see best results from 2 treatments one month apart. A yearly maintenance treatment thereafter.

5. How do I book in, what is the cost?

The cost is $1000 per treatment. We offer a package price of 2 treatments for $1750. The best way to book is to message the Cairns EA Aesthetics injectables and cosmetic team and request an initial consultation. Message us on our socials, book online or call/ text  0480 345 479.

Allmedic Skin Repair

This powerhouse product is a 2in1 exfoliator and moisturiser combined. How can it do both? Thanks to its ingredient profile, Skin Repair does each job far better than many other products on the market.

It contains three main ingredients – high levels of glycolic acid along with salicylic acid and niacinamide (Vitamin B3). They work in synergy to hydrate and refine.

  • Glycolic acid– This natural chemical exfoliator helps to break apart the bonds between surface skin cells. This increases cell turnover to give a fresher, healthier skin. It will smooth rough, dry, scaly skin. Over time it will lighten surface pigmentation to give you a more even skin tone. It will also improve your skin’s barrier function which translates to firmer skin (fewer fine lines) that is more hydrated.
  • Salicylic acid– This oil-absorbing acid can travel down skin pores to clean them out. This is fantastic for clogged skins and those prone to acne. It has a natural anti-inflammatory action as well, helping to reduce the redness associated with breakout.
  • Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)– Excellent for moisturising the skin. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties making it essential in the treatment of breakout and sun damaged skin. It is a powerful antioxidant which gives further protection to skins compromised by UV exposure.

Skin Repair is suitable for acne prone or sun damaged skin, as well as combination and aged skin. It is excellent as an everyday maintenance product and can be used to pre-treat before peels/PDT/laser/IPL/ injectables. We retail more of this fabulous product than anything else because it suits nearly every skin (except super sensitive skins). Within as little as a few days our clients tell us they can already see and feel a difference in their complexion. At just $60, Allmedic Skin Repair is a MUST-HAVE product in your homecare regime.

Affordable. Simple. Extremely effective.

Treating aging skin

Skin aging is caused by many factors both internal (genetics) and external (sun, smoking etc). We associate things like mottled pigmentation, redness, capillaries, fine lines, wrinkles, saggy skin and volume loss with aged skin. Everything we do in aesthetics is trying to address these presentations. Here at EA Aesthetics in Cairns we believe the first step is healthy skin.

There are a few key ingredients that we know improve the integrity of aging skin. These include vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid and sun protection. Of course, we recommend and retail our favourite products in our Cairns clinic. Drop in and speak to the team about our Mesoestetic range, Elizabeth Ann Aesthetic range, and our Allmedic products. We stock a fine selection of what we think are the best products on the market.

As your skin becomes healthier from the support of good quality skincare, we can address the signs of aging with our professional in-house treatments. We tailor a treatment plan to your skin, budget and downtime requirements. Most people will benefit from a varied treatment approach to address all the signs of aging and achieve a natural, more youthful look. This includes everything from peels, laser, IPL, PRP, PDT, RF skin tightening and injectables. A little bit of this and a little bit of that goes a long way!

  • Laser and IPL for colour correction, firming, pores, smoothing and brightening
  • PRP for total rejuvenation
  • Cosmetic injectables for fine lines, wrinkles, hydration and volume restoration
  • PDT for sun damage
  • RF skin tightening for fine lines and firming, especially for the lower face (jowls/ jawline)
  • Peels, microdermabrasion and skin care for maintenance

Why do we recommend so many different products and treatments? Because there is no ‘1-stop shop’ to completely address aging skin. A varied approach seems to work the best. We are fortunate enough to be able to offer a range of treatments to help our clients improve their skin. We love tailoring an individual treatment regime to each one of our clients.

Don’t know where to start? Come into EA Aesthetics Cairns injectables cosmetic clinic and let nurse Ted or nurse Wendy tailor an antiaging regime that meets your needs. We love helping our clients get the results they hope for, and even more!

Treating acne

Do you get spots? Most of us do from time to time. Acne is such a common skin condition, yet it can be quite challenging to treat. This is because there are many possible reasons why someone gets acne. Lifestyle factors, hormones, stress, incorrect skincare, and family history are just some of the factors involved with acne.

If you or someone you know are struggling with breakout, EA Aesthetics Cairns can help! We have a range of treatments that target the inflammation, excess oil and spots that come with acne.

It is so important that people with acne are using the right skincare. Using nothing at all won’t improve acne but using the wrong products will often make it worse. We retail a range of cosmeceuticals that work to reduce acne. We often recommend a combination of Mesoestetic products, Elizabeth Ann Aesthetics cosmeceuticals and Allmedic products. These sophisticated brands contain the right types of active ingredients that are clinically shown to improve acne. These ingredients include salicylic acid, chlorhexidine, vitamin A and vitamin B.  We have degreasing foam cleansers, scrub-free exfoliators, and oil-free moisturisers. We can also order in specialised prescription products from a compounding pharmacy if needed. Accompanying these topical creams, we recommend internal supplements from Advanced Nutritional Programme. The Skin VitA+, Skin Antioxidant and Clear Skin Biome are central to managing acne breakouts.

As well as the right products, we offer several treatments to combat spots.

Salicylic acid peels- This BHA (beta-hydroxy acid) peel has been used to treat acne for decades. It work by reducing inflammation, regulating and reducing oil flow, unclogging pores and renewing the skin.

Microdermabrasion- An excellent exfoliating option for acne. By removing excess dead skin cells, your pores become unclogged and your skin smoother. We often combine LED and extractions with our micro for quicker results.

LED– We always incorporate the bactericidal and healing effects of blue and red LED light with our acne treatments.

Laser- Our Candela glass erbium lasers can be used to treat varying grades of acne. They can assist in reducing inflammation, unclogging the skin and improve scarring.

IPL- Our Candela Nordlys IPL is especially good for red, inflamed acne lesions. It works by targeting the blood vessels that supply the oil glands, to reduce oil flow. It’s also great for fading the red of acne lesions.

PDT- Photodynamic therapy uses a light-activated cream to diminish acne lesions and the bacteria associated with acne.

Persistent acne is very frustrating, and we understand that people just want to do something that works. If you have recurrent spots that you’d like gone, come talk to the team at EA Aesthetics Cairns injectables and cosmetic clinic to find out how we can help you manage your breakout. Message us today via our socials or call/ text 0480 345 479.
